Caving in Gournier
Fossil hunting!
This cave is located in the Cirque de Choranche, close to the tourist cave of the same name. The system extends over 18,000 metres, including a 7,000-metre-long underground river, and is considered one of the most beautiful cave networks in Europe.
Access begins by crossing the entrance lake by boat for around 40 metres, followed by a 6-metre climb. The route then follows a ledge equipped with a handline, leading into the fossil gallery.
Only then does the exploration truly begin.
It is then possible to reach the underground river: a short walk through the fossil gallery, adorned with beautiful formations, leads down to the water. We equip ourselves with neoprene suits to ascend the river, progressing in a canyoning-style approach.
This trip can be enjoyed as a full-day outing by families or groups of friends. A stunning exploration that requires no particular technical skills.
