Every region has its own ecosystem, shaping its geology as well as its flora and fauna. We have summarised all of these unique features, along with the activities you can enjoy in each area.

The four mountains Vercors

Nestled in the heart of the majestic Vercors massif, the Four Mountains region reveals landscapes where nature reigns and thrives. Vast green plains, dense forests, and flower-filled meadows shape a preserved environment. This region is a true oasis of biodiversity, where time seems to stand still. Sculpted by the passage of time, the land offers a wide variety of terrain, inviting exploration and discovery.

Winding watercourses shape this wild landscape, among which le Canyon du Furon truly stands out. Famous for its canyoning routes, this watercourse winds through the scenery, offering a spectacular natural setting where water and rock come together to form a living work of art. It is a place where adventure follows the rhythm of the water, creating unique experiences in perfect harmony with nature.

The massive cliffs of the region bear witness to the geological history of the Vercors, while also making it a true paradise for climbing and guided roped route enthusiasts. Sites such as les Trois Pucelles, avec leur via cordata, et les falaises de Lans-en-Vercors, Corrençon-en-Vercors, et Villard-de-Lans offer as many different challenges as there are locations, all rewarded with breathtaking views across the entire massif.

Beyond these vertical faces, the Four Mountains terrain stands out for its breathtaking hikes, such as the Arêtes du Gerbier, where you can take in the full immensity of the Vercors. It is a place where sky and earth meet, and where the horizon seems endless.

The Four Mountains can also be explored through their vast underground network by caving. La Grotte des Eymards et le Trou qui Souffle are gateways to this hidden world, inviting visitors to explore the mysteries buried deep within the mountains. These caves are the setting for ancient tales, where each stalactite and stalagmite tells a story thousands of years in the making.

The Trièves Vercors

Les Trièves lies on the eastern edge of the Vercors massif. It is a remarkable region where diverse landscapes come together like a living painting. Green fields and dense forests, winding streams and rivers spread across the land, creating a constantly changing natural setting.

At the heart of this landscape rises Mont Aiguille, an iconic peak of the region that naturally draws the eye and captivates climbing enthusiasts. Ascending it is more than a physical challenge: it is an opportunity to take in stunning panoramas over Trièves and far beyond, offering climbers an unforgettable reward for their efforts.

Trièves is also a fantastic destination for MTB enthusiasts, with a wide network of tracks and trails exploring the area’s diverse landscapes. Crossing open fields and forests and following winding watercourses, these routes offer a unique way to immerse yourself in the local scenery, where every ride reveals the natural beauty and richness of the region.
